Otaku Dictionary: Shojo

Noun/Adjective
1) A genre of manga geared towards young girls. These manga very often have idealized romance, and also have very much of the sparkly eyes stuff. Some examples are Shugo Chara, Ouran High School Host Club, Maid-Sama!, Vampire Knight,

Otaku Dictionary: Shonen

Noun/Adjective
1) A genre of manga geared toward young boys. It is also the most popular genre of manga. Girls and teens can also perfectly well enjoy shonen manga.
The "Big 3" manga are all in this category, which are One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach.
Some other popular ones are Rosario + Vampire, Soul Eater, D.Gray-Man, Fairy Tail, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Blue Exorcist

Otaku Dictionary: Seinen

Noun
1) A genre of manga that is targeted to boys in their late teens and men. The female equivalent is josei. The manga can range from average life to very violent to pornographic (ecchi).
Some popular examples are: Chobits, Freezing*, Sekirei*, Hellsing, Elfen Lied, Ghost in the Shell, Gantz, The Sacred Blacksmith,
(I've only watched Chobits and read Freezing and Sekirei)
*these manga have a large amount of fan-service and do have (female) nudity

Otaku Dictionary: Josei

Noun
1) A genre of manga targeted to late teenage and adult women. Some feature romance like Shojo does, but often much less idealized, and less sparkly eyes.
Some popular josei manga include: 07 Ghost, Hapi Mari, Loveless, Karneval, K, Kuroshisuji (Black Butler), No.6 (anime and manga),

*K also has two different extra manga that focus on a time before the anime: K: Memory of Red, which is about the Homra Clan, and K: Stray Dog Story (which imo is pretty horrendous)
Also, the Karneval anime is airing in Japan in on April 4th, three days from the time of writing.
And I haven't read the first 3 so I have no idea what they are about, but it looks like Hapi Mari and Loveless are romance

Just because you can does not mean you should

For example, cooking eggs in a rice cooker
